Dolisie

After Pointe Noire I went to Dolisie for two weeks to do a pilot Language Documentation project in Kituba, a language of wider communication in Rep. of Congo. Dolisie is a nice little town located in the south of the country. Whats really nice about Dolisie is that they have around the clock electricity which is more than I can say for Brazzaville. Here in Brazzaville we've been without electricity for three weeks. There is hope however that one of these days it will come back. Heres a few pics from my trip.

Pointe Noire

I've been working in Pointe Noire the last couple of months. I normally live in Brazzaville but Ive been here on a project. My fiance's family all lives in Pointe Noire so he came with me for a few weeks and I got to meet them but now he has gone back to Brazzaville and I miss him so much. I still have a few more weeks to go and I am counting the days! Here are some pictures from this trip:

Inspiration from Congolese Weddings

I have been to many weddings here in Congo and one of the things I've always kind of liked is the toilet paper decorations. I know this might seem strange and maybe its a sign that Ive been here too long but I do kind of like them. I was wondering if I could possibly get away with this in my wedding and bring a little Congo home with us. Well I was looking at different ideas on the internet and I came across this idea from Martha Stewart with the tissue pom poms.

How perfect is this!! It's inexpenisve and it looks nice and I can even have my TP inspired decorations too!!

Introductions

My name is Heather and my fiance's name is Newton. Like I said we live in Congo. Newton is Congolese and Im American. Newton and I met at an English club and soon became friends and from there our friendship grew to become what it is today. We are planning our wedding for June 2010 (We hope). If all goes as planned we will be returning to the USA in April. This does not leave us much time to plan a wedding but o well here we go!!!

Our Wedding Blog

So I have tried and failed at this blogging thing many times, but I thought I would give it one more try since Im engaged. My finance and I are in Congo and are planning our wedding in WI.
